Healthier You Course For Diabetics

To join the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme you will need to be referred by a healthcare professional – most likely your GP – based on the results of a blood test.  If you think you are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes you can ask your GP for a blood test.

Have a look at http://www.lwtcsupport.co.uk/ for more information.

You are most likely to be at risk if you:

  • Are over 25 and Chinese, South Asian, African-Caribbean or Black-African

  • Are over 40 and White

  • Are overweight – especially if you are large around the middle

  • Have a close family member with diabetes

  • Have ever had high blood pressure, heart attack or stroke

  • Have ever had schizophrenia, bipolar illness or depression, or if you are
    receiving treatment with anti-psychotic medication

  • Are a woman who’s had polycystic ovaries, gestational diabetes, or a baby
    weighing over 10 pounds
